The initial playable prototype


I finally managed to get the prototype to a playable state, where you have, hopefully, some fun and it actually feels like a game. I wanted to push to do this before the end of the year, so here I am.

There is still a lot more to do, and right now, although it feels a bit slow and sluggish, I will put in more hours to advance it to a more polished state.

The next steps are:

  • optimize the game files. Right now, the load times are too high due to using assets that are not optimized (especially icons, where the texture sizes are like 512x512 and loaded as they are and scaled down at runtime to render 100x100 icons.
  • more content: I need to add more items, more spells, more enemies, and in general
  • new systems: I need to add more sub-systems to make the game more interesting: critical hits, more action types, and also implement the main menu unlockable levels to actually do something (like unlock new actions, items, etc).
  • juice: the game, as it is right now is very bland as it contains only some very basic animations when you do some very specific things. I plan to add more sound feedback, more animations, particles, etc, to make the whole gaming experience more satisfying.
